About SARGE

Sergeants are the most important leaders in every police organization. Without the support of Sergeants, no leader can change the culture of the organization. Sergeants translate new ideas, policies, and procedures from upper leadership to line officers and detectives. Sergeants are the ones who ensure that line staff embrace the changes- or they can undermine leadership. The most respected Sergeants are referred to as "Sarge" by everyone in the organization.

Andy "Sarge" McCurdy, MEd, is a Police Executive in the Pacific Northwest who provides evidence-based training and consultation to government agencies, non-profit organizations and private businesses. Sarge has taught throughout the USA and internationally on a variety of topics. Sarge is experienced in assessing needs, developing instructional interventions, delivering training, and then reporting on results to inform future decisions. Sarge has a style of teaching that engages students in thought provoking dialogue, through the use of adult learning strategies, to challenge ideas and perspectives. Sarge believes that, as an instructor and leader, he should be a guide and mentor who helps clients undertake a process of developing self-awareness and emotional intelligence so that they can find innovative solutions to complex problems that will support the mission of the organization. Sarge uses a foundation of Procedural Justice to engage stakeholders, analyze problems, identify root causes, and develop solutions that help organizations implement lasting values-based improvements that focus on how people are treated- instead of only focusing on outcomes that are traditionally used to measure success.  Most importantly, Sarge knows how to change the culture of an organization by influencing leaders of all ranks.
